BLS & Oxygen Administration

General Overview

This specialty primarily trains divers at all levels to deliver first aid for diving accidents and injuries sustained during diving activities. It also accommodates non-divers engaged in dive-related roles, including dive boat captains, lifeguards near dive sites, dive club receptionists, authority inspectors, academy staff, and others providing direct or indirect services to divers. Unlike general first aid or CPR courses from local rescue organizations, this focuses on treating dive-specific injuries; no dives are included.

Course Description

The course teaches existing first aid techniques, preparing participants for resuscitation and oxygen administration to injured divers. Beginners learn to recognize signs and symptoms of dive accidents, respond appropriately, and manage treatment and evacuation. Experienced divers and instructors use it to refresh and enhance knowledge and skills.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, trainees can identify signs and symptoms of various dive illnesses/injuries, treat and prevent them. They manage unconscious diver scenarios, administer oxygen to conscious divers, and perform effective resuscitation until professional medical help arrives. This course serves as a prerequisite for the Rescue and Emergencies specialty.
